Inaugural Goldrush Art Festival
May 1, 2 and 3, 2009
Join us at Gold Beach, Oregon's newest gem, the Goldrush Center, and at venues around town, for a weekend celebrating art with free exhibitions of the finest works from south coast artists and beyond. The Festival highlight will be a national, juried art competition, open to all paint artists, with over $3,000 in awards, including a grand prize of $1,000. Several venues will offer a coordinated schedule of demonstrations, educational lectures and art instruction; a ticketed Saturday night gala awards reception will showcase magnificent art, along with the best of local cuisine and refreshments. It’s our first annual celebration of art in the midst of the supreme natural beauty of the south coast, with its dramatic seascapes, pristine beaches, and wild rivers!
Thursday, April 30, 7 PM:
Pre-Festival art demonstration by Sterling Edwards, the renowned North Carolina watercolorist and instructor at the Biscuit Showroom (free)
Friday, May 1, 10 AM:
Jerry's Jet Boats Mini-Tour: Discover the exciting jet boat experience with this one hour charter excursion - just for Festival patrons - on the wild and beautiful Rogue River ($15 per person); departing from the Port of Gold Beach
Noon: Goldrush Gallery: Juried art show opens at the Goldrush Art Gallery; People’s Choice Award voting begins
2 PM: Glasswurx at the Goldrush Center: glass-art demonstration (free)
5 PM to 8 PM: Welcoming Reception at the Goldrush Gallery; meet the artists and patrons; live music and refreshments; People’s Choice Award voting begins (free)
Saturday, May 2, 9 AM: Goldrush Gallery Opens
9 AM to 4 PM: Live Art at the Goldrush Gallery! (free demonstrations by artists throughout building)
10 AM: Kids Art Workshop at the Goldrush Gallery (free juice, coffee, pastries and prizes)
1 PM to 3 PM: Nature Coach Tour; local inspirational sites for art-lovers ($15 per person, advance sign-up)
4 PM to 5:30 PM: The Art of China: Brush Calligraphy, the Dance of Tai Ji, and Symbolic Metaphors; a multi-discipline program by the internationally acclaimed Chungliang Al Huang, of The Living Tao Foundation; Biscuit Art Gallery & Showroom (free)
6 PM: People’s Choice Award voting concludes
7 PM to 10 PM: Goldrush Gallery Gala Reception & Awards Presentation (ticketed, $25 per person); Oregon television personality Scott Lewis is Master of Ceremonies; live music, hors d’oeuvres featuring delicious local cuisine, desserts, wine and refreshments; business casual attire Presentation of Awards (Sterling Edwards, Judge)
Sunday, May 3 9 AM: Goldrush Gallery Opens
10 AM: “Breakfast and Artist Networking” Goldrush Gallery (free juice, coffee & pastries) Live Portrait Painting by Alexandra Eyer, award-winning artist and instructor
